Gabriel Hinojos, 29, (far right), stands on the back porch of his home in the Boyle Heights neighborhood of East Los Angeles, with his friends, Hector Herrera (center), and Gino Gonzalez, 19 (right of center), both from the local area. Hinojos moved away from his old LA neighborhood, Florence, where he was part of the Florence 13 gang, in order to get away from the destructive lifestyle that he was living before. He tries now to only hang out with friends that aren't involved in gang activity because of his past. He now lives with his wife and four children and has had a regular paying job for the last few months. He has been making an effort to remove himself from his past life for over 4 years now, though hitting a number of speed bumps along the way. He has been and out of juvenile detention and jail since he was 16. However, he has not seen the inside of a jail since serving 6 months back in July 2006, when he returned to his old neighborhood because he missed his friends and was arrested for violating police orders to stay away from the area. He is now a dedicated family man and is trying to be there for his children. (KEYSTONE/CAVAN IMAGES/Justin Maxon)
