HIGH-SPEED SEQUENCES OF A KICKING MULE
Kicking mule. High-speed photographic sequences of a kicking mule (^IEquus^i). These images, by the British-American photographer Eadweard James Muybridge (1830-1904), were published in the book ^IAnimal Locomotion^i (1887). The action runs from left to right in two sequences, one the top two rows, the other the bottom two rows. Muybridge pioneered the use of high-speed photography and used novel techniques to analyse animal and human locomotion. He began his work on high-speed photography when he was commissioned to discover whether galloping horses sometimes have all of their feet off the ground. He proved they did.
