Inhabitants of Seveso, Italy, leave their homes on July 26, 1977. On this day, around 200 people are evaucated from the contaminated area. On July 10, 1976, a reactor explosion takes place at Icmesa, an affiliate of Givaudan, at the periphery of the municipality of Meda near Milan, in which a cloud of dioxin is released. The wind subsequently spreads the poison across a large area and the cloud descends over the neighboring municipality of Seveso.
