MENSCH MUSKULTATUR RUECKEN
Historical artwork of the muscles of the back, undated picture. The skin and fascia (connective tissue) have been removed to expose the muscles of the back of the body. On the right-hand side the main surface muscles are the trapezius (neck and upper back) and latissimus dorsi (lower back) muscles. On the left-hand side are the deeper muscles, such as the rhomboid, that attaches to the scapula (shoulder blade). The muscles of the back largely work to move the arms. Published in The Muscles of the Human Body in a series of plates with references and physiological comments by Jones Quain in 1836. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/Sheila Terry) === ===
