DAENEMARK NIELS BOHR
In his laboratory. Back in 1922, the year he won the Nobel Prize in physics, Bohr stood beside a magnet and gas-discharge apparatus he used to study the properties of atoms in gases. It was partly these experimental studies that led to the atom structure theory that won him the prize. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE SOURCE/New York Public Library Picture)
