GROSSBRITANNIEN CHRISTIAAN BARNARD
The famed heart surgeon Dr Christian Barnard (1922-1999). Barnard was the first surgeon to perform a heart tranplant on a human being and although it brought him fame and fortune, Barnard continued to suffer a tubulent personal life and underwent extensive cosmetic surgery to hold back the ravages of time. However, this does not detract from his medical achievements, despite his first transplant patient dying only eighteen days after the operation as a result of his suppressed immune system, it was still a milestone in medical history, and has since helped to save the lives of thousands.
