A picture dated from 17 August 1962 shows Peter Fechter after being shot while trying to escape across the Wall in Berlin. Germany commemorates Monday, 13 August 2001 the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the construction of the Berlin Wall, the best-known symbol of the Cold War division of Europe between communist East and capitalist West.
