USA AMELIA EARHART 1931
Amelia Earhart made a refueling stop in Rock Springs, Wy., Thursday, June 4, 1931, on her coast-to-coast flight from Newark, N.J. A crowd convened at the local airport to see the famous pilot. This photo is displayed at the Rock Springs/Sweetwater County Airport. The autogyro aircraft is like an airplane with a propeller with added helicopter blades. Her plane was the first autogyro to land at the local airport, and in fact the first to attempt the rarefied atmosphere of the inter-mountain altitudes.
