French and Vietnamese forces deploy along a canal as they await the end of a Hellcat strafing attack on Viet Minh rebels before advancing, in the Plaine des Joncs swaps south of Saigon, Indochina, between May 31, and June 4, 1951. The 10,000 square mile area is the largest hideout of Viet Minh rebels in southern Indochina. Government forces captured three arms workshops and 26 prisoners and destroyed 700 mortar shells and grenades. Exact date is unknown. (AP Photo)
