LM OF SHEEP UDDER CELLS USED FOR SHEEP CLONING
"\Dolly\"" cloning technique (third of 5 pictures). Light micrograph of sheep udder cells used during the cloning of \""Dolly\"", the first sheep cloned from an adult sheep cell. At left a needle sucks up a single udder cell. This cell is then injected into a sheep egg which has had its nucleus (DNA) removed. A spark of electricity fuses the egg and udder cell, and stimulates an embryo to grow. The embryo is then implanted into the womb of a surrogate sheep. Research conducted by Dr. Ian Wilmut at the Roslin Institute in Edinburgh, Scotland. (see photos G285/037, G285/038, G285/040, G285/041).""" (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/W.A.
