KUBA INVASION SCHWEINEBUCHT
HAB05 - 20010323 - BAY OF PIGS, CUBA : This April 1961 photo shows a group of Cuban counter-revolutionaries, members of Assault Brigade 2506, after their capture in the Bay of Pigs, Cuba. For the first time in 40 years, the players in the failed US-sponsored Bay of Pigs invasion of Cuba sat down face-to-face 22 March 2001 to try to shed more light on one of the bitterest confrontations of the Cold War, which still strains US-Cuban ties. The conference was attended by President Fidel Castro, Cuban and US academics, plus a handful of Cuban exiles from Assault Brigade 2506, which carried out the attack. Hundreds of declassified Cuban documents were released on the first day of the three-day conference. AFP/PL/MIGUEL VINAS
