DEUTSCHLAND ZOO EISBAER KNUT
Polar bear cub 'Knut' is pictured in the Berlin apartment of his animal keeper, Germany, February 2007. According to zoo officials the public will have their first chance to see Knut in the flesh coming Friday, 23 March. After giving birth on December 5 last year, his 20-year-old mother Tosca showed a complete lack of motherly instinct and abandoned Knut and his twin brother. Afraid the cubs might be trampled on, keepers rescued them and raised the cubs themselves by feeding them milk from a bottle. But only Knut pulled through after spending 44 days in an incubator. Knut is the first polar bear cub growing up in Berlin zoo in more than 30 years. EPA/Peter Griesbach
