SCHWEIZ CHALET BALTHUS
Visitors gather in front of the former residence of Polish-French painter Balthus in Rossigniere, Western Switzerland, on Saturday, September 8, 2001. Parts of the residence of the famous painter, who died in February 2001, have been opened to the public for the first time, on the occasion of the European Cultural Heritage Day. Built between 1752 and 1756, the residence is one of the largest wooden homes in Switzerland. The Balthus house is one of about 200 historic buildings in Switzerland which have opened their doors over the weekend of September 8-9 to celebrate the Cultural Heritage Day.
