epa04943067 An Audi dealership in Oakland, California, USA, 21 September 2015. German carmaker Volkswagen's board is to hold a crisis meeting on 23 September in the wake of a scandal triggered by revelations that it manipulated its emissions tests in the United States. VW's admission that it had regularly cheated on US air pollution results led to a plunge in the company's shares on 21 September amid concerns about the impact of the revelations on the group's corporate image. The US Justice Department is conducting a criminal probe of the emissions case, according to reports. VW said on 21 September it had halted sales of its four-cylinder diesel vehicles in the US. The company's stock plummeted as a result, closing down 18.6 per cent at 132.20 euros (149.46 dollars) on the Frankfurt share market after the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) threatened to impose fines of up to 18 billion US dollars.
