DEUTSCHLAND CHAMP CAR
Italian driver Alex Zanardi walks over the Lausitzring race track at Klettwitz, eastern Germany, during the training for the Champ Car World Series race, 10 May 2003. In September 2001, Zanardi lost both legs in a serious crash in the German premier of the Champ Car World Series at the Lausitzring here. Zanardi had to have both legs amputated. Zanardi was leading the race in 2001 at the time of the accident, with 13 laps remaining. He is suppose to race these 13 laps on Sunday in a symbolic act prior to the official race.
