A fire erupts from bushland, and engulfing ‘crowning' the tops of the surrounding eucalyptus trees, forcing the firefighters from Fire and Rescue NSW to flee and abandon their fire truck. A video of the event, shot by the man pictured, was widely seen. The Green Wattle Creek fire, just south-west of Sydney, burned at emergency level for several days, burning out more than 35,000 hectares of land, threatening lives and property, forcing many residents to evacuate.
