A weeping woman cradles baby in her arms and bends over her husband who was wounded by U.S. artillery and air strikes at a village north of Bong son in South Vietnam, Feb. 6, 1966. The village was a reputed stronghold of the Viet Cong. The Bombardment was ordered in advance of entry of U.S. 1st Cavalry division troops on “operation masher” some 290 miles northeast of Saigon.
