Simpson creator Matt Groening, undated picture. When a disfunctional animated family arrived on our television sets in 1987, no one could have predicted its phenomenal success. The Simpsons has made up to $1bn for Fox Television and is watched in more than 90 countries. But after 13 series, its creator Matt Groening admits he may be close to 'winding up' the cartoon series. The death of The Simpsons was first predicted five years ago now, and we probably shouldn't be too surprised that the source of the prediction was an episode of The Simpsons, entitled 'The Simpsons Spin-Off Showcase'. So it has gone on for over a decade and unlike most shows, the actors don't leave, or get drug-addicted, or pine for movie career. How many other programmes can show old episodes form 1991, and still look as fresh as a daisy? 'Simpsons', you will be missed, but we still have his excellent 'Futurama' to watch!
