CLINICAL OFFICERS IN MALAWI BY JOHAN PERSSON
A woman will give birth at Zomba central hospital in Malawi. Fifteen years ago, the maternal mortality rate in Malawi was one of the highest in the world, and in 2004, the numbers had doubled. It was now at a level of 984 deaths in 100 000 live births. That can be compared with a country like Sweden, where the number is 4 in 100 000. (KEYSTONE/KONTINENT/Johan Persson)
