Lhasa, Tibet, China - February, 1998..Chinese soldiers on the sunday market in Lhasa. In the background the Potala palace, the winterpalace of the dalai lama. Tibet was occupied in 1959 by the PR China. Repression was fierce, many monasteries destroyed, many Tibetans killed or imprisoned. In the early 90's the freemarket was introduced into Tibet and this turned out to be a very successful tool for the 'chinafication' of Tibet. many youngsters became interested in earning money and were slowly forgetting their political aspirations.
