At a day labor center in Los Angeles a Latina woman interviews for a domestic worker position to care for this child. According to CNN, there are 100,000 domestic in Los Angeles County alone. These women endure low wages, long hours and have little recourse to abuse suffered on the job. A benefit to applying through the worker center is that the women have an agency to advocate for their rights. ..During the past decade, millions of Mexican and Central American migrants have left their homes and families, faced death on the journey to the United States and lived under the specter of criminality once in this country.
