A MILLION SHILLINGS
BOSASSO, SOMALIA- JANUARY 2007.Making their way on foot in high winds, part of a group of sixty Somali and Ethiopian tahrib head along the rubbish-strewn beach in Bossaso at sundown. Staying at a halfway house in one of the coastal camps, the men, women and children are about to set off on the perilous voyage to Yemen. Convening on the outskirts of town after nightfall, they will meet with the smugglers and trucks that will eventually transport them to a remote departure point from where they will say their goodbyes to Africa. Until the sun disappears, they hang around on the beach, reflecting on the long journey they have made so far and the more dangerous leg that lies just ahead. (KEYSTONE/NOOR/Alixandra Fazzina)
