SANA'A, YEMEN- APRIL 2008.An old lady sits at the door of her friend Zahara Said's latest temporary home. Along with Zahara's three small children, they are sharing a tiny room of just two square metres at an overcrowded squat in a slum area of Sana'a popular with Somali refugees. With no support and unable to find legal employment, the women regularly go begging in the city in order to afford the rent on this damp space that was formerly a bathroom. Their previous home was a little better but was gutted by fire when Zahara left her children alone as she went out looks for zakat on the streets. She is just grateful that neighbours saved her clothes, blankets and pans, and although she has no choice, is more reluctant to go out alone now. (KEYSTONE/NOOR/Alixandra Fazzina)
