SCHWEIZ WUERENLOS KREISEL
Traffic circle, Wuerenlos, Switzerland, pictured on May 11, 2013. Agglomerations shape the Swiss landscape. It is a conglomerate coexistence of big and small, old and new, esthetic and functional. In Switzerland, the opinion on agglomerations is divided. Some speak of "urbanization" and "architectural sins", some of "their diversity being a reflection of the federalist and liberal principles of the Swiss state". 45 percent of the Swiss population live in agglomerations, which is more than in the core cities or in the countryside. The pictures by Christian Beutler are from the book "Daheim - Eine Reise durch die Agglomeration" by Matthias Daum and Paul Schneeberger, published by NZZ Verlag.
