This is the test considered as irrefutable proof. The problem with this test, which is still practiced today and which remains the test that gives the verdict, is that if it is considered positive, the diagnosis is made according to that result. On the other hand, if it is negative there is a non-negligible probability that the patient still has COVID. Indeed, this test can be falsely reassuring at first. Therefore, when there is a serious doubt and a quick result is needed (for example for hospitalization in a special unit or not) a CT scan is also performed without waiting for the result of the smear because the CT scan can show very early signs and is less often negative in case of significant infection. La reconstruction 3D est tirée d'une tomodensitométrie thoracique sans contraste chez un patient atteint d'une infection à COVID 19..Le diagnostic est prouvé par l'analyse PCR d'un frottis nasopharyngé, qui est considérée comme l'"étalon-or" en termes médicaux. C'est le test considéré comme une preuve irréfutable. Le problème de ce test, qui est encore pratiqué aujourd'hui et qui reste le test qui donne le verdict, est que s'il est considéré comme positif, le diagnostic est posé en fonction de ce résultat. Par contre, s'il est négatif, il y a une probabilité non négligeable que le patient soit toujours atteint de COVID. En effet, ce test peut être faussement rassurant au début. Par conséquent, lorsqu'il y a un doute sérieux et qu'un résultat rapide est nécessaire (par exemple pour une hospitalisation dans une unité spéciale ou non), un scanner est également réalisé sans attendre le résultat du frottis car le scanner peut montrer des signes très précoces et est moins souvent négatif en cas d'infection importante.
