MILKY WAY OVER LA SILLA OBSERVATORY
Milky Way over La Silla observatory. View of the Milky Way over the 3.6 metre telescope of the La Silla observatory in the southern Atacama Desert, Chile. This site is operated by the European Southern Observatory (ESO). La Silla was ESO's first observing site and is still one of the leading observatories in the southern hemisphere. In the sky are the constellations Scorpio and Sagittarius near the bright central bulge of the Milky Way. The bright star Antares (upper left) can be seen at Scorpio's heart and the Lagoon Nebula (M8) is at left against the Milky Way.
