Opened cargo bay of the Space Shuttle Endeavour against a backdrop of most of the coast of California. In the cargo bay are the Spacehab Laboratory, the Canadarm, and the Spartan 207 satellite, (gold, at center). During this mission, STS-77, (19-28 May 1996), Spacehab was used for microgravity experiments and Spartan was used to test an experimental inflatable antenna. San Francisco Bay is at upper center, Los Angeles is at upper right and the San Andreas Fault is visible along the coastline. The line of clouds at upper left marks the position of the Sierra Nevada mountains. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE SOURCE/Science Source)
