Kyoto Cathedral (1969)
The cathedral of Kyoto, Japan, built by the Swiss architect and priest Karl Freuler, photographed after its completion in spring 1969. Karl Freuler had lived in Tokyo since 1948, where he built around 130 churches, monasteries and parish centres as an architect for the Catholic Church in Japan, Taiwan and South Korea until 1968. The cathedral in Kyoto, a concrete building with a roof, was built between 1967 and 1968 and is one of his major works. (hls)
