The Renault family with their cars. 1899 photograph of the Renault family and their first cars. At right is the first car produced by Louis Renault (1877-1944), the Renault Voiturette (built 1898). At centre, the cover has been removed to show the engine. The early Renault cars used De Dion-Bouton engines. The founders of the Renault automobile manufacturing company were Louis, with his brothers Marcel, and Fernand, along with Thomas Evert.
