Germany Bertolt Brecht (1898-1956)
Bertolt Brecht, born in Augsburg on 10 February 1898 and who died in East Berlin on 14 August 1956, is one of the most influential German authors of the 20th century as a dramatist, playwright and poet. His works are performed all over the world. Brecht founded and implemented the epic theatre or "dialectical theatre". His best-known plays include The Threepenny Opera, Mother Courage and Her Children and Die heilige Johanna der Schlachthöfe, a work critical of capitalism. (wp)
