Monkeypox
A first case of monkeypox has been confirmed in Switzerland on 21 May 2022. It is a case in the canton of Bern, as the cantonal health directorate announced on Saturday. The case was reported on Friday and has been confirmed following laboratory tests. Monkeypox is a viral infectious disease caused by the orthopox virus, as the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) writes on its website. In humans, the clinical picture shows a certain similarity to smallpox (variola), although monkeypox is generally milder. The infectious disease is transmitted from animals, presumably rodents, to humans (zoonosis). Transmission from human to human is also possible. (autotranslate)
