Chloé Zhao (*1982)
Chloé Zhao, born on 31 March 1982 in Beijing, is a Chinese film director, screenwriter, film editor and film producer working primarily in the USA. She attended boarding school in England, studied political science in Massachusetts and film production at New York's Tisch School of the Arts. She presented her critically acclaimed second film, the modern Western The Rider, at Cannes in May 2017 in the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs side series. Her third feature film Nomadland, starring Frances McDormand, won the festival's top prize, the Golden Lion, at the Venice International Film Festival. In addition, the film premiered in a simultaneous screening at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2020, where it won the People's Choice Award. At the 2021 Academy Awards, she was honoured for directing her film Nomadland, the winning film at the awards ceremony. (wp)
