2020 French Open
The French Open (officially Tournoi de Roland Garros) is the second of the Grand Slam tennis tournaments and has been held every year since 1891 between mid-May and early June at the Stade Roland Garros in the 16th arrondissement of Paris. The French Open is the only clay court tournament in the Grand Slam series and is a special challenge for players, as the game on red ash is much slower than on hard court surfaces, for example. The Centre Court in Paris is named after Philippe Chatrier (1926-2000), the tournament and the tennis court after the aviation pioneer Roland Garros (1888-1918). Two other courts bear the names of French players Suzanne Lenglen (1899-1938) and Simonne Mathieu (1908-1980). The 2020 tournament has been postponed to 27 September to 11 October due to the COVID-19 pandemic in France. (autotranslate)
