Chess | Game of the Century Bobby Fischer versus Boris Spassky (1972)
The chess game of the century is the duel between the reigning world champion Boris Spasski and his challenger Bobby Fischer for the world title at the 1972 World Chess Championship in Iceland. On 1 September 1972, in the midst of the Cold War, Fischer had managed to break the decades-long Soviet domination of chess and win by far the highest victory bonus ever paid out at a chess event up to that time.
