Rock blasting Innertkirchen Chapf (2001)
On 4 October 2001, 19 tonnes of explosives were detonated in 160 boreholes at Chapf near Innertkirchen in the Bernese Oberland. The aim was to blast 250,000 cubic metres of rock that threatened to bury the Grimsel road. The operation was successful, but only 150,000 cubic metres of rock thundered down into the valley. A second safety blasting was therefore carried out on 20 August 2002. (ar)
