Federal Elections: Polling stations | looking back
In polling stations, direct democracy in Switzerland became particularly visible in the past. However, until 1971, when voting rights for women were introduced at the federal level, the polling stations were male places. Not only community centres, but also school buildings and restaurants served as polling stations. Voting by mail was introduced in 1994. (Keystone-sda/reru)
