Bern Wankdorf Stadium (1925-2001) | Fans
The first Wankdorf Stadium was opened in 1925 and extended several times until 1939, before having to make way for a new building in the early 1950s. A new stadium with a capacity of 64,000 spectators was built on the same site for the 1954 World Cup. The home stadium of Bern's Young Boys was a legendary football arena that left its mark on generations of fans with unforgettable moments. Here, the ground shook under the feet of the BSC Young Boys fan community, who experienced great triumphs and bitter defeats. Even though the stadium has not stood since it was demolished in 2001, the name Wankdorf remains inextricably linked with the magic and memories of the old stadium. (luk)
