Switzerland Landslide in Brienz
Between May and June 2023, the Graubünden village of Brienz/Brinzauls had to be evacuated due to the threat of rockfalls. On 16 June, around 1.2 million cubic metres of rock fell into the valley, but narrowly missed the village. A second evacuation followed in November 2024, as new rock was moving at a rate of up to 30 cm per day. In April 2024, construction began on a 2.3 km long drainage tunnel to stabilise the slope. The return of the residents is dependent on the further course of the geohazards. (lem)
