Invention of the Iron Lung (1929)
The US-American inventor Philip Drinker develops the Iron Lung together with Louis Agassiz Shaw and James Wilson at Harvard University, USA. Drinker first tested the invention on his own. A first operation is carried out at the Children's Hospital in Boston and saves the life of a girl suffering from Poilio. The device was not presented to the public until after patenting on September 14, 1929. (luk)
