Warsaw uprising 1944
On 1 August 1944, during the Second World War, the Polish Home Army rose up against the German occupation. The insurgents fought for 63 days against the overpowering German occupation troops before surrendering in a hopeless situation on 1 October. After the Warsaw Uprising, the city was systematically almost completely destroyed. (axa)
