On 4 July 1954, the unthinkable happened at the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern - the German national team defeated an overpowering Hungary 3:2 in the World Cup final. After falling 2:0 behind early on, the German team fought back with unbridled determination, Helmut Rahn scored the winning goal and goalkeeper Toni Turek held on to his luck. When the final whistle blew, there was boundless jubilation - a moment for the ages that went down in sporting history as the "Miracle of Bern". (luk)
