MINT Subjets at Swiss Gymnasium Schools
Swiss Federal Council Johann Schneider-Ammann emphasizes that the MINT subjects mathematics, computer science, natural sciences and technology are the driving force behind innovation and business. These subjects are best taught in kindergarten, according to the Federal Council. The enthusiasm for MINT subjects has increased significantly, as figures from the federal government show. More and more students are embarking on MINT studies. Between 2010 and 2015, the share rose by 14 percent, in all other subjects by only 5 percent. Universities of applied sciences are feeling the growth most strongly (plus 17 percent), universities somewhat less (plus 12 percent), but still clearly. This means that one in three first-year students starts a Bachelor's degree in mathematics, computer science, natural sciences or technology. The foundation for such a course of study is laid early on, at the latest at the level of Gymnasium schools, after whose graduation pupils are allowed examination-free access to universities.
