CND Peace-Sign (1958)
The most important peace sign was designed in 1958 by British artist Gerald Holtom on behalf of the British campaign for nuclear disarmament for the world's first Easter march from London to the nuclear research centre in Aldermaston. According to Holtom, the symbol represents a combination of two characters from the Angular alphabet, namely N for "nuclear" and D for "disarmament". (wp)
