HR Giger (1940-2014)
H.R. Giger, born on 5 February 1940 in Chur and passed away on 12 May 2014 in Zurich, was a Swiss artist, painter, sculptor and master of the airbrush technique. It was Giger's popular art book "Necronomicon" that caught the attention of director Ridley Scott when he was looking for the right look for a creature in his upcoming horror film. The creature designed by Giger went down in film history as Alien and earned Giger a well-deserved Oscar. Giger's mesmerising biomechanical style, this brilliant synthesis of flesh and machine, became known worldwide not only through his remarkable paintings, but also through sculptures, elegantly designed furniture and architectural and interior design projects.
